Salads have a bad wrap. Sure, lots of people are die-hard salad aficionados. But to the most us, a salad is not worthy of a lunch to look forward too. But here, in the last few days before the big event, (The IMCF World Championships), salad is our best weapon is staying healthy. And following The Knight Fit Diet, (with very little wiggle room for cheating), the best way to go. |
Traveling in airports and staying abroad, can make it much harder to control our diet. So we control what we can, while we can, with the healthiest options possible. If you are following our athletes, here is a thought that may help... "food is not entertainment, food is medicine".
Thinking of food as medicine may sound odd, but medicine is what you need to keep your sick body healthy. Instead of looking at it as, "yet another salad", just dig in and say, "ok, we can do this". And once that switch is flipped, now pull on your creative thinking... Do you know how many different salads you can make? The ingredients and combinations are nearly infinite!
Here is your guideline;
1) Try to make your own dressing. This will keep out sugar and artificial fillers.
2) Make it colorful.
3) Don't be afraid to add fruit. Just don't let the amount of fruit outweigh the veggies.
4) No wheat based croutons!
5) Add a high protein topper. Steak, chicken, seafood, fish, quinoa.
And that's it! The world is your oyster!
So we leave you with those thoughts as we prepare for Poland. We will be back with new Bentos when we return. So please check back in late May, (2015).
Till then, take care, eat healthy and thank you for all your support of this blog!
